I’m Jen Carter, founder of Star Light Senior Advisors, a senior living advisory company built on ethics, independence, and real-world experience.

My connection to this industry started long before I ever built a business.

Later in life — in her 50s — my mother became a manager in an assisted living facility. Through her, I saw firsthand the responsibility, compassion, and leadership required to support seniors and their families during some of life’s most emotional transitions. When I lost her suddenly, that experience stayed with me — and I know she would be proud of the work I’ve built in this space.

Before entering senior care, I was a licensed real estate broker in Rhode Island, looking for a career that felt more meaningful and sustainable long-term. As I began exploring the senior living advisor industry, I spoke directly with the major franchise players to understand how people typically got started.

What I discovered was a franchise model that limited control and growth:

• Expensive franchise fees

• Fixed territories with no room to grow

• Mandatory advertising you couldn’t control

• Ongoing revenue give-ups

You didn’t own the brand.
You didn’t control your growth.
And you were locked into decisions you couldn’t change.

That wasn’t the kind of business I wanted to build.

I chose to form my own system — and learned the hard way.

Through real-world experience, trial, and error, I built my own senior living advisor business from the ground up. Along the way, I refined what worked, eliminated what didn’t, and created a tight, ethical, step-by-step system that removed unnecessary costs, restrictions, and gatekeeping.

Today, every new advisor I work with benefits from the mistakes I already made — and the systems I’ve already built.
